Corruption was the talk of the APNU and AFC before 2015 elections. The then opposition uses to preach as if they are gods and will never do nor condone any wrong doings when in government. They make us believe that corruption will no longer be the talk and happenings of the day.
But while we sit, see and hear, we have learned and get to know that the APNU have a set of high ranking officials who are hired by various ministries within the government and hold top post within region 6 that are eating all the pie at once.
I can comfortably say that government services go with a price be it if you are seeking medical attention at the health institutions or contracts within the region, everything comes with a price for the APNU.
To my knowledge and understanding contractors and suppliers of goods and services have to bid for work within the region and the evaluation committee evaluates the bidders and then the regional tender board decides who the contract should be awarded to.
However, we must bear in mind that the head of the tender board is the Regional Executive Officer and with her are a few APNU people. So, we know what’s going to take place there at the tender board.
However, I am made to understand that the REO, who is the chairman of the Regional Tender Board is being influenced to give contracts to contractors who are associated and give kickbacks to an in-law of hers who sits at very senior position in the region and works within the ministry of health and who also sits as a regional councillor.
Since, 2015 this gentle becomes a multi-millionaire, buying a number of properties and SUVs, BMW, etc. This said APNU top brass now have one of the biggest promotional groups in Berbice\Guyana and he sits as the President of the said group that promotes horse racing, etc.
This APNU don and the REO of region 6 were recently fingered in the splitting of a contract and the Public Accounts Committee had to call for an investigation to be done. Since then I never heard of any or about that investigation.
This APNU multi-millionaire is using his influence in ensuring a few contractors get 80% of the work within the region. In fact, those contractors are associated with this overnight millionaire now have those contractors supplying the health sector with dietary. So, the small man is out of business.
So, what happens is that the contractors have to give a kickback by percentage to this APNU young multi-millionaire since 2015. One of the contractors are getting contracts all over the country and cannot fully complete most of it but is still being awarded dozens of contracts.
There are a few others top regional APNU officials that are doing the same in the region by going and taking monies from contractors and people of the region for various services and means.
Recently, another PNC and APNU top brass in the region that is attached to the Ministry of the Presidency went and ask or should I say demand from a contractor a mammoth amount of monies for the PNC National Congress. She told the contractor that he will be given work because she and a few ministers spoke to the REO.There are some other APNU persons who promising people house lots and transports while demanding large amounts of monies from the residents of region 6. Shop and liquor licenses are also be promise and side-kicks are given. Anyway most of the times the deal goes sour and the monies are being lost to the APNU top notches.
I wonder if the President and the PNC along with APNU will ever ensure that corruption stop in region 6. I supported the coalition in 2015 and 2016 LGE but don’t think with the attitude of those APNU top brass in region 6 the coalition or PNC\APNU will ever have my support or my family and relatives.
I think the residents of region 6 and the RDC should call for an investigation to be carried out and ask that SOCU do act when they are called upon.
