Following a delayed march past of the participating Primary Schools yesterday afternoon at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground, co-director of the organising body; Petra Organisation, Troy Mendonco, kicked off the 2018 Smalta Peewee girls’ football tourney.
During the first match contested, reigning champions, South Ruimveldt got off their title defence in emphatic fashion after their skipper and 2017 MVP Fayon Henry continued where she left off last year and scored both goals of her team’s 2-0 win over Genesis Primary.
Henry’s goals came in the 10th and 12th minutes of the clash.
However, in the other match, which was scheduled to kickoff concurrently with the South versus Genesis clash, St. Stephen’s Primary won after Mae’s were a no-show.
In the other matches contested, North Georgetown needled St. Pius courtesy of a Jadea Maison strike in the 25th minute.
Dellana Small and Kellyana Albert scored one each during Smith Memorial’s triumph over St. Magaret’s and Fantisha Prass netted a brace for Tucville that got past F.E. Pollard 2-0.
In the final match of the afternoon, West Ruimveldt proved to be the best with yet another 2-0 victory of the day with Enterprise going down.
Kenetta Abrams and Shellon David scored one goal each in the triumph.
The winning school will receive $200,000, second $100,000, third $75,000 and fourth $50,000, all towards a project of the school’s choice.
