A seventy-nine-year-old ex-prison officer who is a resident of the Palms Geriatric Home was last Thursday arrested and taken into custody for allegedly threatening to shoot a nurse attached to the said institution.
The elderly man who is said to be a licensed firearm holder armed himself with a gun and threatened to shoot the nurse sometime around 20:15 hrs.
Police in a statement said that investigations revealed that the nurse and the ex-prison officer had a misunderstanding in one of the wards at the institution.
As a result of the misunderstanding the nurse went to another ward. When he was walking up the stairway, the ex-prison officer, who was at the top of the stairway, confronted him with a gun in his hand.
He pointed it at the nurse while issuing threats to shoot.
The nurse managed to disarm the elderly resident and summoned the police, who promptly arrived and took possession of the firearm.
The former prisoner officer was arrested and taken into custody as an investigation has been launched.
