Police will hope to the steal the GCA’s GISE, Star Party Rentals & Trophy Stall two-day division-one championship trophy from defending Champs DCC when what is anticipated to be a pulsating final, starts today from 09:00hrs at Eve Leary.
DCC, which defeated GDF at Bourda in the last final are favored to retain their title since preparation for the Cops was affected by the Law-men being ‘in lying’ due to the recent Local Government Elections while their best spinner, Anthony Adams will be unavailable for today’s contest in Police’s backyard.
Adams, one of two First-Class players in their side, is nursing a broken finger leaving the other First-Class player, lively pacer Raun Johnson to take early wickets while Wicket-Keeper/Batsman Kemol Savory and opener Andrew Lyght will be depended on to do the bulk of the scoring.
National all-rounder Christopher Barnwell will hope to bring his good form from the Regional Super50 tournament as he aims to lead the Queenstown unit to back-to-back titles and the $120,000 winners’ cheque.
Even without Windies players Kemo Paul and Sherfane Rutherford, DCC has a strong line-up with Vice-Captain Trevon Griffith, who got consistent starts in the Regional Super50, while Tevin Imlach, Raymond Perez, Joshua Persaud, Ashmead Nedd and Sachin Singh have all played for the Windies at youth level.
The visitors’ bowling will hinge on pacer Qumar Torrington, Carlton Jacques and Barnwell should provide pacer options while left-arm spinners Totaram Bishun and Nedd along with leg-spinner Steven Sankar.
The runners-up will take home $70, 000 and trophy while there will be prizes for the Best bowling performance, Batsman with highest score, Bowler with most wickets, Batsman with the most runs, player with the most run-outs, catches and stumpings. MVPs of Zone’s A and B will also be awarded.
