Recently-released convict Naresh Alli was back in jail yesterday after being charged with murdering 22-year-old Romeza Sookdeo, whose decomposing body was found last Sunday at Hydronie Market Road, Parika, East Bank Essequibo.
Alli, also called ‘Little Robbery’, was remanded after appearing in the Leonora Magistrates’ Court. He is due to return to court in January 22, 2019.
Alli, of Parika Sea Dam, East Bank Essequibo, was arrested on Wednesday, and police say that he confessed to killing Sookdeo during an argument.
He allegedly stated that Sookdeo had accompanied him to the empty lot at Hydronie Market Road after he had solicited her.
However, they allegedly argued over money and he beat and strangled her.
Police said that Alli was recently released from prison on a larceny conviction.
Romeza Sookdeo’s decomposing body was discovered last Sunday morning after a security guard alerted police to a stench in the vicinity of the empty lot.
A post mortem revealed that she died from manual strangulation, compounded by blunt force trauma to the head.
She was unemployed and had no fixed place of abode.
Her mother, Naimawattie Persaud, a domestic worker, said that Romeza had visited her last week Thursday at the woman’s Parika Façade, East Bank Essequibo home.
