Ranks from the Force’s Major Crimes Unit are to question three suspects today, as investigators appeared to be closing in on the killer of Kwakwani midwife Paulette Wade.
A senior police official said that the suspects are to be interrogated in Georgetown. Detectives will also seek for a possible match of their prints with those that were lifted from the slain woman’s home.
“We had five persons in custody, (but) we released three on cash bail; we got an extension (from the courts) to hold two until Monday, then we held one more suspect.”
Among those recently detained is an electrician who had worked at Wade’s home about a month ago. While the suspects are from Kwakwani, a source said they have all denied being closely acquainted with the slain midwife. One of the individuals is reportedly named ‘Delon’.
This is the name that Wade was reportedly heard calling out as she was attacked.
Police have ruled out robbery and confirmed that there was no sign of forced entry to Wade’s home. It is suspected that Wade knew the killer.
Wade, 37, who worked at the Kwakwani Hospital, was found dead in her Kwakwani Park, Region Ten home, around 06:30 hrs last week Saturday. She had been beaten and manually strangled.
Wade’s seven-year-old daughter found the body and ran to the Kwakwani Hospital to inform her mother’s colleagues. The child, who slept with her mother and brother, said she woke up some time on Friday night and heard sounds of a scuffle.
Although the light was off, the child was able to make out a ‘dark-skinned short man’, who was reportedly shirtless and clad in a pair of short pants.
The man was reportedly kicking Wade and the child allegedly heard her mother calling out the name of ‘Delon.’
