Dear Editor,
Please permit me to express my sentiments regarding government medical institutions. It was very saddening to learn that public health institution was without basic supplies such as gloves, gauze and iodine solution.
On October 17, 2018, I visited the Linden Hospital Complex with my son to get his injury/wound cleaned and dressed before I took him to school. When I arrived at the hospital, it was a few minutes after 8:00AM. I was informed that they were out of supplies and I would have to wait. After waiting for more than 30 minutes, I was then told that there were no supplies.
It was further stated that they aren’t sure when they would be receiving supplies. I then thought, there is a health centre nearby my son’s school; maybe I could get assistance there, and then I could take him to school.
So I left for the health centre. When I arrived there, I was met with the same state of affairs.
Editor, these are government institutions, where the majority of citizens of this nation turn to for medical needs. There is need for concern here when a person can’t even get the most basic things at these institutions.
The thing that caught my attention was the lack of concern that the medical staff displayed at both of these facilities. There was no sense of urgency or worry that they are not able to help patients. I keep asking myself, what would happen if there were a real emergency?
Editor, how long are we the people going to have to face these kinds of situations? Why aren’t people being held accountable for breakdown/lapses like these? These kinds of situation require serious attention for the higher level officials.
Faithfully yours,
R. Singh
