Dear Editor,
With just about four weeks to go before Local Government Elections; campaigning from all parties continues to grow aggressively in the mining town of Linden.
Posters and fancy banners are being mounted; all of a sudden we have more newspapers than the town has ever seen in years. Old friends are finally being reunited since boyhood days as door to door visits gives competition to Jehovah Witnesses.
Oh how disappointed, “Auntie Merttle” looked seeing a Councillor who seeks re-election for the first time in three years; “Teacher gyal wuh happen to the lights you promise, the potholes turning lake, de other day meh kill two labaria snakes, de mosquitos sucking meh dry, oh man nothing ain’t change; just the lil grey hair on yuh head”.
It seems you have to be the relative of a “big bai” to get proppa roads that leads directly to your gate; in the coming weeks a lot of patching will be done to plaster the disappointing performance of those who are now claiming to put “family first”.
This is the perfect opportunity for Lindeners to make demands, somebody said if you ask for land, house and car you could get it during elections; sadly if the current trend continues, after elections should they prevail the critical issues that affect residents will be catching dust until the next election.
Mr. Editor, currently some senior executives are claiming success of the coalition government APNU + AFC ‘s work as their party’s own, stop lying to the people; all government spending must be passed in parliament; building of roads and commissioning of buildings, appreciate that it currently takes two to tango at the National level (don’t mix matters).
What grade would you give a majority at the Linden Mayor and Town Council 13 to 2 and one not so independent?
I am encouraging Lindeners look past the carnival of facades and drowning of loud music which seems to be the trend days before every E Day. We must not be afraid to embrace change especially if you go to sleep on shattered dreams and wake up to a sunrise of false hopes and broken promises; the yellow and green party needs a chance to bring about real change. Its intentions are pure and will work in your interest.
Sincerely,
Devin Sears

(Kaieteur News) – There was a time when things were used as they were intended. A fork for eating and a bed for sleeping.
