The mutilated body of a male of African descent was discovered on Saturday morning at Low Creek on the Linden Soesdyke Highway with multiple injuries on his body.
Relatives who viewed photographs of the body on social media identified the victim as “Osafo”, a mentally challenged man from La Grange West Bank Demerara.
Kaieteur News understands that ‘Osafo’ did odd jobs in La Grange.
One individual said someone had taken “Osafo” from the area some two weeks ago, under the pretext that he would take the mentally challenged man to work at a fishing establishment.
Police received reports of a body on the Highway around 07:00 hours on Saturday morning and dispatched investigators to the location.
The victim had injuries about the head, left arm and leg. He was clad in a black jersey, white boxer shorts and blue jeans.
The ranks also noticed fragments next to the body, which apparently came from a vehicle. This led to suspicions that the man was a hit-and-run victim.
The area is said to be lonely with the closest community about three miles away.
Relatives were preparing yesterday to visit the Wismar Hospital Mortuary to view the body.
