A 25-year-old labourer is in police custody after allegedly setting fire to his father’s property, located at Lot 351 Hope, South Enmore, East Coast Demerara.
The man, had previously attempted to set fire to the same building, but was not prosecuted after his father, 48-year-old Bagwan Singh, refused to give a statement.
He was arrested while walking to Foulis, East Coast Demerara.
Police in a statement said the upper flat of the two storey, concrete and wooden building is occupied by Kendra Petrie and her five children.
The southern apartment in the bottom flat was occupied by the suspect.
Petrie alleged that on September 26, at around 07:00 hours, she secured her home and went to stay at some relatives. On Tuesday at about 21:15 hours, she received a phone call from a neighbour who said the house was on fire. She went to the scene and saw the house engulfed in flames.
