Reigning Mr. Guyana Kerwyn Clarke, who was not able to compete at the CAC Championships in Mexico after retaking the crown here on Saturday
last, placed third at the annual Darcy Beckles Invitational Classic, Bikini & Figure Championships held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
Prior to leaving for the Land of the Flying Fish, Clarke had stated that it is his intentions to do two shows per year and he was in very good shape. His claims were proven true as he battled his way among other top athletes to claim the bronze medal behind the winner, Surinamese Wendel Setropawiro who at his first appearance copped both the Open and Invitational titles and pocketed USD $3,250 for his efforts.
Barbadian Kirk Alleyne copped the second place, Clarke third and Rodney George of Antigua and Barbuda, fourth.
Clarke informed that the competition was intense: “I put together a total package that consisted of symmetry, balance aesthetics, conditioning but I think the judges probably went for the massive mass that the other two competitors had over me at this event. Nevertheless, I am still thankful that I was able to make the podium on my first regional competition after my leg injury and I think this was good as will take this as motivation going forward to better myself.”
The top Guyanese muscle man is expressing gratitude first and foremost to the Almighty for allowing him the opportunity to compete; his brother Keron whom he said prepped him before going on stage as well as his other family members.
“Mr. Ross for his continued support towards my success, my sponsors Fitness Express, International Pharmaceutical Agency, BK International, ACS Auto Parts and Mining Supplies, L. Mohabir & Sons Cambio, Attorney-at-Law Sohan Poonai, Star Party Rentals, Dexter ‘Bushman’ Garnett, Space Gym, my training team, Rawle Green, I would like to commend all these people because they have made a major difference in my success.”
This was Clarke’s first time competing at the Darcy Beckles as a senior athlete, his first outing there was as a Novice in 2011.
