Dear Editor,
Firstly, congratulations to all at Kaieteur News for the 24 years of unqualified preservation of the 4th estate!
Secondly, please allow me space to respond to Harry’s (Ontario) letter entitled “Lots of Silly Willy “, published in your letter section on September 24th, 2018,
Harry B. seems to have a proclivity to knock things down with scant regard to decorum and sensitivity, and with a jaundiced view.
His first statement that Guyana does not have Spanish as a second language is totally out of whack!
That is like asking our Spanish/Portuguese speaking neighbours why they do not have English as their second language! As a Queens College Alumnus, I was taught, French, Spanish and Latin, in the first form, onwards.
I do not know how much the education curriculum has morphed since, but I am sure we have enough skilled translators to serve the Diplomatic Community, without diluting content and context.
As for our Education Minister’s perceived extemporaneous acquiescence of the French Ambassador’s suggestion-diplomacy- which seems to have inexplicably escaped Harry B, was surely required by our Education Minister.
It also takes testicular fortitude, Harry B, for our Education Minister, or anyone for that matter, to refrain from being obsequious, under the prevailing circumstances.
Zinging the GRA Chairman for seeking help to reduce/ eliminate corruption, astonishingly, confound Harry B!
Seeking help is multi faceted…has many characterizations. Perhaps, the GRA Chairman already has a game plan but is seeking additional advice, to engender a higher degree of success, before implementation.
What’s wrong with that Harry B? Any savvy CEO would have the same approach, especially if thrown in shark infested waters, where “smoke and mirror” is the norm.
Excoriating Guyana’s DOE Head for non expertise, I will take a leap of faith and assume that Harry B lives in Canada.
To this I say, is it not common knowledge that the current Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, concurrent with his academia, started as a school teacher, then became a snowboarding instructor, then a bar room bouncer, before entering politics?
Did he not admit to smoking pot and refused to apologize? Was he not considered a dilettante by Prime Minister Harper’s Cabinet, especially so because he was/is an ardent admirer of Nelson Mandela?
Did he not mandate that all the new MPs in his Cabinet be in alignment with his “pro choice” policy?
Dr. Steve Hewitt and CBC, Canada, extensively covered these events, yet, with all the negativity and controversy surrounding, Justin Trudeau, at age 46, he won the Canadian Prime Ministership by a statistically huge margin and by incorporating luminaries into his cabinet. Is it a fair statement to say that perhaps, Guyana’s DOE’ s head is replicating Mr. Trudeau’s actions, Harry B?
Then again, you, Harry B, to have the effrontery to suggest that Guyana’s elected Head of State should learn what stupidity is from Steve Jobs, is totally reckless and uncouth! Assuming you are well versed in all things Steve Jobs, then you must know that, though being adopted, was most despised by his own daughter, Lisa, whom he fathered at 23, yet denied paternity despite a DNA match, and whom he kept in abeyance for the most part of her life!
That is, in my opinion, calculated stupidity, Harry B, and your addled pate seems to be cerebrally porous to acknowledge such!
