A sudden search by police and prison authorities Sunday at the Lusignan Prisons once again underscored that there is a thriving contraband trade in the prisons.
According to the police yesterday, between 12:02hrs and 14:50hrs, a joint search was conducted at the three Lusignan Prison Holding Bays.
There, the search party found, in one of the holding bay, 14 cellphones; 15 SIM cards; one tattoo machine; five pairs of scissors; 48 improvised weapons; 85 grams of cannabis; $3,040 in local cash; a quantity of chargers; one knife; a chopper and a quantity of razor blades.
In Holding Bay 3, the haul was smaller- three cell phones, nine improvised weapons; one tattoo machine; one pair scissors; one cable and one earpiece.
In another holding bay, the party discovered three improvised weapons; four lighters, one cell phone and an earpiece.
