The “Number One Supermarket” at 18 Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD) appears to be a number one target for robbers.
Two bandits, including one with a handgun, invaded the business place at around 14:00 hrs yesterday.
This has been the fourth robbery in four months, since the business was opened in the area.
Witnesses claim the two men walked into the supermarket, and one pulled a gun from his waist and pointed it to an employee, while demanding money.
His accomplice then took all the moneys from the cash register, along with several phone cards.
The bandits then fled.
In another incident, three armed bandits robbed the Chinese-owned business, but were cornered in the Supermarket.
The bandits who accessed the premises from the Demerara River, tied up the 53 year old security guard, with shoe laces and bag straps.
They then placed him in a bathroom at the back of the building before proceeding to the top of the three storey building, via the back steps.
The Chinese owners are said to be expressing frustration at the brazen robberies.
One employee expressed fear at working there, since she said. “you don’t know when they coming”
