Former prison escapee Winston Long was back in court yesterday to face charges of armed robbery.
Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman yesterday remanded the 21-year-old after Police Prosecutor Quinn Harris made serious objections to bail.
Allegations against the accused stated that on August 27, 2018, at High , Werk-en-Rust, while being in the company of others and armed with a cutlass, he robbed Arif Wahab of a cellular phone valued $75,000.
The second charge stated that on August 27, last, at High Street, Werk-en-Rust, while being in the company of others and armed with a cutlass, he robbed Krishna Seenarine of $4,000.
The court heard that on the day in question, his alleged victims claimed that as they were walking away from their business place, the defendant approached them, with cutlass in hand and demanded their valuables resulting in them handing over the articles.
Long allegedly then told them to run while he made good his escape.
The victims later reported the matter to the police, triggering an investigation, which resulted in the defendant’s arrest.
While at the station, the defendant was said to have been positively identified by his professed victims.
Prosecutor Harris objected to bail based on the fact that a weapon was used and both victims positively identified Long as their attacker.
Based on the Prosecutor’s objection, Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman remanded the defendant to prison until September 26.
