Dear Editor,
At some point, I hope sooner rather than later, it will have to be accepted the State is doing a poor job in securing convictions and it needs to be asked were/are the officers (prosecutors, researchers, etc) well prepared, equipped with the knowledge of the law, or set out to embarrass the State?
Or this whole thing was a charade from Jump Street to appease society’s clamouring for justice from a rapacious government? If not, the Westford’s case (below) is another glaring example of incompetence to the highest.
$600+ million of taxpayers’ money gone unaccounted for and teachers are told they cannot get an increase because no money is there! A high profile case like this should have received laser beam attention from the high echelons of the State.
What message is being sent to the man and woman in the streets- the law is an ass for the connected and powerful but a baton for them?
Why didn’t the State au fait itself under what legal basis charges could have been brought and ensuring the credibility of the witnesses, after spending tens of millions of dollars on audits, etc? Why didn’t the State do its homework with rigour and dexterity?
It is noted from the inception that Westford’s partner, army officer, Gary Beaton, who was implicated, was never charged. What was his immunity, pray tell (having colleagues in “high office”) or as Trump would say, in the midst of the glaring, “no collusion”?
This is gross embarrassment that will see loss of significant political mileage and good will. The PPP/C will make hay of this. When it does, Government should not be upset, because Government presented the opportunity on a golden platter.
Honestly, I don’t know how the APNU+AFC thinks it can win in 2020 with these continuous poor records, growing incompetence and arrogance, and mistreatment of the ordinary man and woman. These aren’t energizers to get voters to the poll.
Everything we see happening is energizing PPP/C supporters, depressing APNU+AFC’s, and awakening the apathetic towards the PPP/C or a credible third force. To ignore these, bury heads in the sand, or tilt heads to the sky in aura of confidence will bring rude awakening, only then it will be too late!
