Please permit me a space in your letter column, to respond to an article published in the Kaieteur News by one Clinton James dated Friday 10th August, 2018 and was headlined “Commissioner of Police acted improperly”.
I seek to address the two paragraphs where the said “James” sought to launch a character assassination on me by stating information with the hope of misleading the reading public. I want to set the record straight once and for all. In direct reference to me, he stated that I am one of the most deceitful policemen and had used my authority to victimize and “stiffed” my colleagues at Albion and further went on to say that I always seek to gain “something extra” from anyone who I had helped.
Let me therefore inform the ill-informed “James” that my career has exceeded over thirty years and I had covered a wide expanse of Guyana in the execution of my duties which afforded me the opportunity to have dealt with thousands of Police ranks and civilians who can attest to my honesty and my modest living is a testimony to that compared to others “if you know what I mean”. I further reiterate as stated before that I abide by the rule of law which I applied on that fateful day at the checkpoint at the Berbice River Bridge and was sanctioned hastily by the powers that be. I remain steadfast in abiding by the laws now and forever.
In closing, to further state that I was disrespectful to the COP and had sought to harass the men is a fallacy and this writer “Clinton James” had relied on his imagination because at no point in time was he a party present to have witnessed the episode. The smartest readers believe in facts and not fiction.
Yours Sincerely,
Godfrey Playter
