Defending Berbice Under-17 Cricket Champions, Rose Hall Town Bakewell are one step closer to defending their title after reaching the finals of the 2018 Berbice Cricket Board Under-17 Inter-club Tournament. The Team defeated Rose Hall Canje in the opening round before easing pass Arch rivals Port Mourant in the Playoff. The winner of the Port Mourant Cricket Club and Rose Hall Town Bakewell match then drew a BYE into the finals.
On Wednesday at Rose Hall Canje, played with sheer determination until their experienced opponents were able to pull ahead with a fine bowling effort spearheaded by Guyana youth spinners Jonathan Rampersaud and Jeremy Sandia. Rose Hall Town Bakewell batting first were soon in trouble as Guyana Under-15 pacer Isaiah Thorne claimed Vikash Subramaine LBW for naught without a run on the board. Jonathan Rampersaud and fellow national Under-15 player Jonathan Rampersaud and fellow national Under-15 player Mahendra Gopilall both made 28 and with support from Lucas Arthur 14, Tyrese Sealey 19 and Angelino Ramdihal 13, rallied the home team to 133 all out in 30.2 Overs. Bowling for Rose Hall Canje, Isaiah Thorne 3 for 27, Richardo Ramdehol 3 for 24 and Bhaskar Dhanai 2 for 31 bowled well. In response, the determined and highly discipline Rose Hall Canje Cricket Team were given a solid 49 run opening partnership by Ramdehol and Avishkar Persaud before Ramdehol was dismissed for 19 by left arm spinner Jeremy Sandia. Rose Hall Canje Cricket Team then lost their nine remaining wickets for 51 runs despite resistance from Persaud 16, Jaron France 12 and Isaiah Thorne 11. Jeremy Sandia 3 for 18, Matthew Pattaya 2 for 19 and Jonathan Rampersaud 2 for 20 were the principal wicket takers for Rose Hall Town Bakewell.
In the playoffs on Thursday, Port Mourant batted first after winning the toss. They were given a steady but slow start of 36 from 20 Overs by openers Rampertab Ramnauth and Fordeen Khan. Ramnauth was dismissed, caught at the wicket by Chanderpaul Govindan off Matthew Pattaya for 07 from 42 balls. Port Mourant Cricket Club were eventually bowled out for 111 in the 48th Over as Fordeen Khan 16, Dave Ramgoolam 16, Mark Romaldo 14 batted well in the middle. Thirteen years old Matthew Pattaya 3 for 23, Tyrese Sealey 3 for 25 and Jeremy Sandia 2 for 25 were the main wicket takers for Rose Hall Town Bakewell.
The home team lost skipper Chanderpaul Govinda, run out for 00 in the first over. The inform Jonathan De Veira 40, Vikash Subramanie 19, Angelino Ramdihal 13 and Jonathan Rampersaud 23 not out batted well to guide the defending champion into another finals.
