A seven-member Jamaican team including five Boxers was scheduled to arrive in Guyana at just after 01:00 hrs this morning to participate in this weekend’s three-night Caribbean School Boys and Junior Boxing Championships at the National Gymnasium from tomorrow.
According to President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) Steve Ninvalle the Jamaicans were scheduled to depart the Norman Manley International Airport at 14:00hrs (15:00hrs Guy time) yesterday but were affected by a flight delay and were rescheduled to leave at 20:00hrs last night and will be the first contingent to arrive here.
The six boxers are Ashawney Lawes (boys Featherweight), Arnold Anderson (Juniors 15-16 Lightweight), Ramone Chung (Junior 15-16 Light Welterweight), Daniel Hylton (Youth 17-18 Light Welterweight), Jerome Ennis (Youth 17-18 Welterweight) while the only female on the Jamaica team is Britney McFarlane (Junior 15-16 Lightweight). The Manager is Kevin Stupart while the Coach is Gilbert Vas.
In addition the pugilists from the Land of Wood and Water, the host Country, Trinidad & Tobago, St Lucia and Grenada will do battle in the Championships which were inaugurated in 2016.
All three editions of the tournament have been held in Guyana and is the only such Championship in the Caribbean.
Meanwhile, 16 local and five Caribbean Referees/ Judges will officiate in the Championships and the Referee from Dominica is already here. (Sean Devers)
