– Centuries for Gopilall and DeVeira
The Berbice Cricket Board organised Mike’s Pharmacy Under-15, 50-Overs Tournament continued last week with victories for Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes, No. 73, Tucber Park Cricket Club and the Blairmont Community Centre Cricket Club ‘A’ Teams. The four teams have joined Albion Community Centre Cricket Club, Achievers Cricket Club and Kendall’s Union in the Play-off segment of the Tournament which is being sponsored by Mike’s Pharmacy of Georgetown. National Under-15 batsman Mahendra Gopilall blasted an attacking 143 for defending Berbice Under-15 Champion Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes Ltd, his teammate Jonathan De Veira also scored his maiden century, while West Indies Under-15 squad selectee Jonathan Rampersaud blasted 83 from just 48 balls as the home team scored 466 for 7 from 45 overs against the visiting Blairmont Community Centre Cricket Club Under-15 ‘B’ Team.
Scores in the matches played were:
1) Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes Under-15 scored 466 for 7 versus Blairmont Community Centre Cricket club ‘B’ at the Area ‘H’ Ground.
Batting first after winning the toss, Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes were spearheaded by Mahendra Gopilall 143 with five sixes and seventeen boundaries, Jonathan De Veira 100 (11 boundaries), Jonathan Rampersaud 83 (8 boundaries and 2 sixes) and Kevin Ramnarain 35. Bowling for Blairmont Community Centre Cricket Club ‘B’, Rayad Gafoor took 2 for 87 and Rakeem Khan 2 for 94 as all the Blairmont bowlers suffered at the hands of the powerful Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes batting.
In response, Blairmont Community Centre Cricket club ‘B’ were bowled out for 74 from 16-Overs to hand the home team victory by 392 runs. Devin Singh top scored with 12 as extras contributed to 36 off the runs.
Matthew Pattaya took 3 wickets for 15, Jonathan Rampersaud 2 for 2, Kevin Ramnarain 2 for 19, while Jeremy Sandia, Shamar Scott and Christopher DeRoop took one apiece.
2) At the No. 73 Ground in Upper Corentyne, No. 73 Young Warriors eased passed Port Mourant by 56 runs.
Batting first, the home team scored 125 all out in 43.3 overs with Seeraj Chatterpaul 23, Vettorie Latchman 15 and Salim Khan 13 being the principal
scorers.
Akeem Laundry 2 for 26, Nuraj Shaindeo 3 for 29 and Ramesh Bharrat 4 for 18 were the best bowlers for Port Mourant, who in reply were bowled out for 69 in 25.2 Overs. Mark Ramaholo 21 and Berbice Under-15 Batsman 19 were the only ones to reach double figures as Vettorie Latchman took 5 for 20 and Seeraj Chatterpaul 4 for 18.
3) Blairmont defeated Paradise by 211 runs at the Paradise Ground in West Berbice. Blairmont Community Centre Cricket Club ‘A’ batting first amassed 246 for 9 from 40-Overs with S. Rupnarine top scoring with 53, Altav Balman 37, Ryan France 26 and V. Singh 24.
Paradise Sports Club in response, were bowled out for 35 with Romeo Deonarine taking seven wickers for nine runs, while Rupnarine returned with the ball to take 3 for 1.
4) Tucber Park Cricket Club under the leadership of National Under-15 captain Zeymul Rampersaud defeated Rose Hall Community Centre by 86 runs at the Canje Welfare Centre. Tucber Park scored 140 all out in 30.4 with Tomani Caesar 39 and Zeymul Ramsammy 20 being the principal
scorers. Off spinner Sanjay Algu 4 for 26 and Bhaskar Dhani 3 for 24 bowled well for the home team. The batters for Rose Hall Community Centre failed to apply themselves and were bowled out for 54 with Kamsammy taking 2 for 4 and Justin Meagu 3 for 15.
