I have been reading much about giving oil profits to citizens yearly. I agree in principle that the monies should be given to citizens instead of going to a wealth fund but I do not agree with the proposal of giving everyone money by way of a cash payment .
I would like to see instead of cash payments the government should move to increase tax threshold to bring it in line with the rest of the Caribbean. I would also like to see an overall reduction in taxation on consumer goods, building materials, automobiles and a price per gallon of fuel that is 50% lower than world market price. Whatever shortfall these reductions may cause should be made up by the oil profits. Then no one would be able to claim that they didn’t get a fair share of the oil revenues.
