A 36-year-old labourer, who allegedly stabbed his wife, her mother and a four-year-old girl last Saturday, is expected to be arraigned before a City Magistrate today to answer to several charges.
Julian Sergeant of Success South Squatting Area, East Coast Demerara, is said to have injured his reputed wife, 19-year-old Tiffany McBeth, his mother-in-law, Lorraine McBeth, 64, a housewife of Peters Hall, East Bank Demerara, and her granddaughter, Nathania Browne.
According to reports, the suspect woke up Saturday morning and began chucking Tiffany McBeth’s four-year-old niece. Tiffany intervened and the suspect then began to beat and choke her.
The woman’s mother heard the commotion and went into the room where she saw her son-in-law assaulting her daughter and granddaughter.
The elderly woman intervened and the suspect armed himself with a knife, which he used to stab both Tiffany and her mother multiple times. The women however put up a fierce fight, which caused the man to run out of the house.
When Sergeant left, the women locked the door and called 911. Sadly, their calls for help were not heard since they claimed the emergency services staff put down the phone on them. They only received help after calling a family member who is a policeman.
The women were treated for multiple stab wounds. They have since been released from the medical institution.
