A deportee protested and wailed after he was sentenced to eight months in jail because he was found guilty on a charge of unlawful wounding.
Chrisendat Gunga, 29, a deportee of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice was accused of wounding Wilbert Alphonso, called “Baby Sham”, a mason of Lot 84 Hampshire Squatting Area, Corentyne, Berbice. He is accused of committing the act on June 17, 2018.
He appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh in the Albion Magistrate’s Court.
The facts of the matter as presented by Prosecutor Inspector Althea Solomon were that the accused and defendant are known to each other.
On the day in question, the men were among some men at a gamble shop when a misunderstanding developed between them; the accused proceeded to throw away Alphonso bicycle thus infuriating the situation.
Gunga subsequently left and armed himself with a cutlass. He then returned to the scene and without warning, proceeded to broadside Alphonso on his back and other parts of his body.
The matter was reported and Gunga was subsequently arrested and taken into custody. He began to use a number of expletives. He was heard saying, “Is me alone here boy and I beg them and them still send me to jail”.
