Four armed youths on Wednesday robbed 51-year-old Debbie Atwell at the “Presidential Touch” wash bay, a business that Atwell operates at 38 Public Road, Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara.
Atwell told Kaieteur News of the experience that has left her counting losses in excess of $350,000. The woman said she was sitting in her business place around 11:15 hrs – at the time looking down into the screen of her phone – when someone walked up to her, and told her, “don’t move, or we going to kill you.”
The woman said when she raised her head, there were three men standing in front of her, one of whom had a gun in his hand.
Atwell said she asked them what they wanted, at which time they started pulling off her gold jewellery which included one chain, two rings and a band. She recounted that one of the bandits stayed just outside of the business, on a bicycle, and was acting as a lookout.
After taking the woman’s jewellery and a purse which had some documents and money, they made good their escape. She said that three headed in the direction of the Haags Bosch dumpsite at the back of Eccles, while one went along the East Bank public road, also in the direction of Eccles.
Atwell claims that the three individuals are identifiable.
A report was made to the police and investigations continue.
