A 28-year-old labourer who appeared before Magistrate Esther Sam in the Charity Magistrate’s Court yesterday, charged with burglary was sentenced to a total of 32 months’ imprisonment yesterday.
The accused who was identified as Francis Gonzalves, of the Charity New Housing Scheme, made his final appearance yesterday facing two charges; Burglary and Unlawful wounding.
The first charge read that Francis on October 7, 2017, committed burglary on Susan Smith of the Charity Extension Scheme. On the day in question, Francis allegedly stole a laptop computer, gold bangles, gold chain and a number of other jewellery, all amounting to $340,000.
Francis who was not represented by an attorney yesterday, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
He was, however, sentenced to 20 months imprisonment for the said charge, after he was found guilty by Magistrate Sam.
The man was also charged and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for unlawful wounding, which was committed on the said Susan Smith, on April 16, 2018. The convicted Francis will serve the two sentences consecutively.
