Sparta Boss, Leopold Street, Rhythm Star and Showstoppers sealed their berths to the quarterfinal round, when the sixth GT-Beer ‘Keep Ya Five Alive’ Street-ball Championship continued on Thursday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
Sparta Boss overcame a 1-0 deficit to defeat a dogged Sophia unit 3-1. Eusi Phillips, Sheldon Shepherd and Jermin Junior scored in the 36th, 37th and 40th minutes respectively for the victors.
On target for the losers was Desmond Cottam in the 33rd minute.
Leopold Street edged Dave and Celina All-Stars 3-2. Okeeny Fraser fashioned a double in the fourth and 26th minutes, while Job Caesar fired home in the 23rd minute.
For Dave and Celina, Rudy Halley and Emmanuel Atkins were on the score sheet in the ninth and 18th minutes respectively.
Meanwhile, Showstoppers defeated Agricola 4-1. Luiroy Nievelder bagged a brace in the eighth and 28th minutes, while Marvin Josiah and Emmanuel Thomas scored in the 25th and 30th minutes each. On the losing side, Anthony Barrow netted in the fifth minute.
Dorville Stewart banged in four goals to guide Rhythm Stars to a 7-4 victory over Swag Entertainment. Stewart’s goals came in the eight, 19th, 26th and 33rd minutes, while Stephon Ramsay added a brace in the 17th and 20th minute while Kevon Gordon was responsible for the opening goal in the 10th minute for the winners.
Clarence Huggins netted twice in the seventh and 18th minute, while Colwyn Drakes and Shane Luckie scored in the 15th and 29th minute each for Swag Entertainment.
The event continues on Thursday at the same venue with quarterfinal round.
The winner of the competition will pocket $600,000 and a trophy, with the runner-up copping $300,000 and the respective accolade.
On the other hand, the third place finisher will collect $150,000 and a trophy, while the fourth place unit receives $75,000 and a trophy
