The annual holiday cricket camp organised by the Everest Cricket Club (ECC) is underway at the club’s Camp Road and Carifesta Avenue location.
The live-in camp which caters for the youth players of the elite club has attracted 22 participants this year and will run until July 24.
For five days and five nights, the next generation of Georgetown, Demerara, Guyana and by extension Windies players will be exposed to various aspects of cricket related activities including physical drills, classroom sessions, interactions with other distinguished current and former international players and a cricket match to test their skills.
Facilitators for some of the sessions include former Guyana and West Indies captain and international coach, Roger Harper, current Guyana Jaguars captain Leon Johnson, former Minister of the government in Guyana Manzoor Nadir among others. Saheed Mohamed, ECC senior vice president and current coach is the resident facilitator.
The camp was declared open on Thursday July 19 by the current executives of the historic club including President Rajesh Singh, Secretary Ron Morris, Club Captain John Ramsingh, Treasurer Nadir, Ravin Balkarran and Rahaman Khan in the presence of the parents of the children in the upper pavilion of the club.
