The management of the McDoom gas station is counting losses after an early Thursday morning robbery. The staff are glad that they are still alive since two of the four youths who robbed the gas station had guns.
Four young bandits pounced on the staff of the McDoom, East Bank Demerara, gas station on Thursday at 03:15 hrs. The two victims were a 24-year-old male cashier who was inside the mini mart and a 36-year-old male pump attendant who was outside.
In CCTV video footage that this publication obtained, which shows the robbery, one suspect on a bicycle came from the direction of Agricola and rode up to the mini mart where the cashier was and rapped on the window that secures the mini mart.
He said something to the cashier, who then collected cash from the bandit and gave him cigarettes. The bandit who was still seated on his bicycle and wore a blue jeans, black jersey and a green flop hat, then pulled a gun from his waist and pushed it threw the grill which also secures the mini mart window.
There was an exchange of words; that was evident in the video, which showed the bandit making gestures with the gun. At the same time, three other bandits who were waiting in the side street to the gas station, ran into the gas station and pounced on the lone pump attendant. The bandits can be seen pointing a gun at the pump attendant who then stood up from the stool he was seated on and put his hands in the air.
The bandits then went through the man’s pockets and could even be seen rummaging through a cupboard that was close by. One of the bandits who wore black three quarter pants, black jersey, with a yellow cap covered by a red cloth, then left and joined his accomplice who was at the mini mart window robbing the cashier.
CCTV footage clearly shows two handguns in the bandits’ hands. The two armed bandits were then accompanied by a third accomplice who was barefooted and wore a blue three quarter pants and a black hooded jacket that concealed his identity.
After the cashier gave the bandits all the cash, he fell to the ground, unconscious. The four suspects then exited the gas station via the side street. The whole ordeal lasted just under two minutes.
One staff member for the gas station who has worked with the business for a number of years, stated that it was some nine times that the gas station has been robbed in recent years.
The police in a statement reflected the fact that they received a report of a robbery at the Shell McDoom gas station around 03:15 hrs on Thursday, by four unidentifiable male suspects, ranks responded at 03:30hrs.
