The son of a man who was burnt alive in his home at Bush Lot Village, West Coast Berbice is currently in police custody after allegations that he set the house on fire with his father inside.
Dead is James Latchmansigh, 73, whose burnt remains were recovered yesterday afternoon.
According to information gathered, the son allegedly set the verandah alight sometime around 11:30 hrs.
Shortly after, he was seen standing along the roadside watching as the edifice burnt with his father who could not walk, trapped inside.
Neighbours subsequently made contact with fire service ranks who arrived shortly after. They managed to contain the blaze but were unable to save the elderly man.
Reports are that the son is a habitual drug user and would normally abuse his father when he refuses to give him money to buy cannabis.
It is alleged that he had become annoyed after his father denied his request for money.
