– couple held, boat captain, Venezuelans at large
Ranks from the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) have detained a Good Hope, East Coast Demerara couple after intercepting a massive cocaine and marijuana shipment at Mon Repos Channel, East Coast Demerara.
The bust happened at around 04:00 hrs yesterday.
A CANU release said that the operatives seized 82 parcels of cocaine weighing 91.132 kilogrammes and 98 parcels of cannabis weighing 56.008 kilogrammes after intercepting a vessel.
Iazim Baksh called “Bato” of 123 Phase 1 Good Hope, East Coast Demerara, and his wife, are currently in custody.
The boat captain, identified by the alias “Dive and shoot” of Mon Repos Foreshore, escaped while the ranks were closing in.
Several other persons of interest, including Venezuelans, are also at large.
The release stated that during the early morning hours yesterday, CANU ranks conducted an operation on the East Coast of Demerara where several locations used for docking of fishing vessels along the East Coast Seawall were reconnoitred.
