The Mayor & City Councilors are making preparations to have the Clerk of Markets Office moved.
This was after a Kaieteur News expose on the deplorable conditions under which the staff were working.
At a press conference on Thursday, Town Clerk Royston King said that Council is preparing to relocate the Clerk of Markets office for Stabroek Market to the Kitty Market within three weeks.
He also lamented the difficulties the cash-strapped Council was facing, and the fact that property taxes had not been raised in years.
King also conceded that many other structures that house M&CC staff were in poor condition, and attempts were being made to have these problems remedied with the little resources that existed.
During a recent visit following heavy rainfall, Kaieteur News observed that the roof leaked constantly and the lower flat of the office and a counter were covered with water.
This is not the first time the Mayor & City Council of Georgetown (M&CC) has been found in breach of Occupational Safety and Health Act Chapter 99:06.
This publication has since learnt that the Chief Labour Officer within the Ministry of Social Protection has ordered an investigation in the wake of the Kaieteur News article and accompanying photographs.
