Police have detained a friend of the Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara man who beat his brother to death on Thursday night for eating his food.
Reports indicate that the friend was also involved in the beating of 51-year-old Nazir Khan, called ‘Kari, an unemployed resident of Lot 37 Bella Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara.
The suspects and victim are all said to be heavy consumers of alcohol.
A post mortem performed yesterday revealed that Khan, who was punched, kicked and choked, suffered brain haemorrhage due to blunt trauma to the head, compounded by compression injuries to the neck.
According to reports, Khan’s 54-year-old brother, who had imbibed in alcohol, gave Khan money and asked him to purchase a meal.
When Khan failed to return, the brother and a friend went to look for him. They eventually located Khan, who admitted that he had eaten the food.
The brother and friend inflicted a severe beating on Khan, who fled to a nearby yard where he collapsed and died.
His brother was subsequently taken into custody shortly after, while the friend was detained yesterday.
