Grenadian’s only Olympic medalist Kirani James lived up to the hype when cruised to victory in Men’s 400m in at time of 44.99 at the Leonora Stadium in West Demerara last evening in the third annual Aliann Pompey Invitational Championships.
James won Gold medals in the 400m at the World Championships in 2011 and the 2012 London Olympics and watched by a good size crowd with included Sports Minister Dr George North who declared the meet open and Director of Sport Christopher Jones, finished ahead of Chidi Okezie of Nigeria in a time of 45.97 and Guyanese Winston George who finished third in a time of 46.13.
Guyana’s Troy Doris, who won Commonwealth Gold, had an off day in his first appearance on soil as he only 16.09m to finish fourth in the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) Men’s triple jump which was won by USA’s Donald Scott in a distance 16.46 (+0.0).
