Economic advisor to the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic, Peter Ramsaroop, wants all Guyanese to understand “our reality”. The reality he speaks of is that ExxonMobil needs Guyana more than the country needs it.
Ramsaroop recently said this in a missive he sent out to the media.
He said that ExxonMobil is poised to make much money off Guyana; way, way more than the company will be giving back.
Also, Ramsaroop said, “Government politicians and even the Private Sector Commission seem to believe that ExxonMobil is here to save Guyana. This is far from any truth. The company is here to make money, increase shareholder value and profits.”
Ramsaroop noted that nowhere in any of ExxonMobil corporate strategic plan documents, will one find any language that outlines areas to develop Guyana as a Nation.
He said, “The atmosphere that the government and private sector is trying to create is to chastise anyone” who points out that Guyana has been shafted.
“We as citizens are here to protect our nation; we are here to ensure our natural resources are used to improve the lives of our citizens, the development of our nation and the long-term future of the next generation.
“The PPP/C Version 2.0 outlines significant developmental projects that should have been further along, instead our Nation is at an economic standstill, waiting on Oil Money,” said Ramsaroop.
Further, Ramsaroop said that Guyanese need to be even more vigilant “because the unmanaged expectations that is fomenting in Guyana today is the atmosphere of division, confusion and frustration among the population where companies like ExxonMobil will thrive on a distracted people.”
During a brief interview yesterday, Ramsaroop said that any research on the countries where ExxonMobil operates will reveal that the company’s modus operandi is to make the best out of its operation in any nation that is divided.
“They always try to come out looking good…Our private sector is falling for ExxonMobil PR. Local businesses are not really benefitting.”
Ramsaroop said that he notes the utterances of some businesses that have been saying that criticism of ExxonMobil translates to chasing investors away.
“But I do not see it that way at all. As far as I am concerned, we are merely sending a message to the other companies that Guyanese will not just lie down to be walked over.”
