Deolall Rampersaud of Timehri was detained for two days at the Madiwini Police Outpost, by a corporal who gave him motorcar PPP 5572 to work and pay $20,000 per week.
Rampersaud was given a motorcar PPP 5572 to work, by the traffic rank, who is stationed at the Madiwini Outpost, on the Linden Soesdyke Highway.
The driver was supposed to hand over $20,000 every week. Kaieteur News understands that at the end of the first week, Rampersaud asked for more time to pay since he did not have all the money.
It is alleged that the rank noticed a scratch on his car when Ramparsaud came with it, and called a friend who does body work to give an estimate of the repair costs.
Rampersaud reportedly insisted that the car was already scratched when he received it.
Told that the repair cost was $30,000, the driver allegedly asked for time to repay. It was then that he was allegedly handcuffed to a window at the outpost.
Contacted by Kaieteur News as to why Rampersaud was handcuffed to a window, the policeman said that the driver owed him money.
Rampersaud was released on the June 21, after being detained for two days.
The police rank reportedly took $15,000 from him and told him to work and pay the balance of $35,000.
Photos of Rampersaud handcuffed to the Outpost window were published in June 21 issue of this newspaper and on social media.
This caused the Guyana Police Force to initiate an investigation and the police corporal has since been transferred.
