As part of their preparation for the upcoming Caribbean Schoolboys boxing tournament which is slated to be held in Guyana in August, The Guyana Boxing Association held its annual Michael Parris Pepsi U16 schools boys tournament yesterday at the Andrew Lewis gym in Albouystown.
Several boxers turned in commendable performances, while there were two exhibition bouts which provided added entertainment.
Vickacy Graham of Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF) gained the walk over from Hazel Adams of Vergenoegen Boxing Gym (VBG) before Moses Crawford (FYF) won his bout against Kellan Pierre of Harpy Eagles boxing gym (HE). Pierre opted not to continue the fight eight seconds into the second round.
Michael Mangal of FYF defeated Joel Mamers (HE) by unanimous decision, while Alex Adams (VBG) won in similar fashion against Colin Williams (HE). Seon Graham handed FYF another win when the referee stopped his contest against Dextroy Brimmo (HE) one minute 24 seconds into the third round.
Alesha Jackman and Abiola Jackman then entertained the crowd in an all female exhibition bout before Joel Anthony (HE) lost to Malachi Jones (FYF) by unanimous decision.
Joshua Hinds (HE) and Shaquancy Wright (VBG) practiced their skills in another exhibition affair. Stephon McDonald (FYF) won against Enoch Munroe (HE); the referee stopped the fight in after one minute five seconds into the third round.
Richard Howard (FYF) beat Deron Williams (VBG) by unanimous decision, while Fitz Heywood (FYF) overcame Patrick Harvey (FYF) in similar fashion.
The next in the series of preparatory meets will take place on July 7 at the same venue.
Several teams from the Caribbean are scheduled to be here for the schoolboys tourney with St Lucia, Grenada, Jamaica signaling their commitment to be here. Barbados, Trinidad and Suriname among others are also expected.
