The Albion Community Centre Cricket Ground, would be a hive of activity this weekend as the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) continues its effort to ensure players potential is fulfilled on the field.
The BCB would be hosting Coaching Clinics for spinners and batsmen as part of the comprehensive Dr. Tulsi Dyal Singh Countywide Coaching Programme. The spinning clinic for left arm spinners, leg spinners and off spinners would be held tomorrow while the batting Clinic would be held on Sunday.
Level III Coach Winston Smith would conduct the Clinics after earlier conducting similar clinics for wicket-keepers and fast bowlers. Board President Hilbert Foster who is spearheading the coaching programme, is urging all spinners and batsmen to take advantage of the clinics.
While the main objective is to develop the talent of players, it is also the start of preparation for the 2019 Inter County season at the Under-15, 17 and 19, levels.
Foster, disclosed that a total of 20 wicket-keepers and 36 six fast bowlers attended the first two clinics, while two-day coaching sessions have been hosted in the Upper Corentyne and Lower Corentyne Sub-Associations.
Similar sessions would be hosted in the next few weeks in the New Amsterdam and West Berbice areas which would complete the Dr. Tulsi Dyal Singh Coaching Programme. The BCB at the completion of the programme, would select 70 youths to attend a one-week Academy at the Albion Ground from July 23 – 27, 2018.
Clubs are asked to send their players and are reminded that attendance at these coaching sessions would give them an advantage for selection in 2019.
