Guyana’s CBC Men’s Player Profiles
Guyana’s Senior Men’s Team would be contesting the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championships from June 23-30 at the Anthony Nesty Sporthal, Paramaribo, Suriname.
Kaieteur Sport is pleased to present the team to you.
Name: Felix Hamilton
Age: 33
Position: Point Guard
Bio: In the 2017/18 season, Hamilton has played professionally with Potters Steelers Basketball Club in Antigua & Barbuda where he has helped the 2016/17 champions reach the semifinals of this year’s championship. He would be making his debut for the Golden Arrowhead.
Name: Denzel Devonish
Age: 25 Position: Point Guard
Bio: Devonish is one of the more experienced players on Guyana’s national team after playing four years at the College level for Pace University in New York City, USA. He has scored 1349 points, made 400 assists while snatching 100 steals. He was also part of Pace ’s 2012 team that made the College playoffs. This will be his first tournament for Guyana.
Name: Travis Belgrave
Age: 19
Position: Point Guard
Bio: Belgrave began playing first division basketball this year before helping his club, Eagles qualify for the Guyana’s National Club Basketball Championships. He has been the leader for his team since then and has been described as a player, “Who can give you more with less” by Guyana’s Head Coach, Junior Hercules. This is Belgrave’s first CBC Championship selection.
Name: Orlon Glasgow
Age: 32
Position: Small Forward
Bio: Glasgow has been one of the standout players in Linden’s Victory Valley Royals team that lost the 2017 National Club Championship finals to Colts and finished third this year at the same competition. In 2017 Glasgow was the highest scorer at the National Championships.
Name: Shaine Webster
Age: 30
Position: Center
Bio: Playing in his 3rd CBC Championship, Shaine Webster has emerged as the best local player over the years. He won back to back Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards in 2017 and 2018 after playing a big role in his club, Bounty Colts winning three consecutive National Championships.
Name: Timothy Thompson
Age: 19
Position: Center
Bio: This Marian Academy sixth form student came up from the Under-23 and first division ranks at Bounty Colts this year to make his 1st Division debut. Thompson knows what it’s like to taste success at the national level after being part of the team that won silver in the inaugural FIBA 3×3 Lesser Antilles Under-18 Championships in St. Lucia. On debut at this CBC Championship, he will be looking to aid Guyana to more podium finishes.
Name: Stanton Rose
Age: 18
Position: Point Guard
Bio: One may think that after being named the youngest senior Captain in Guyana’s basketball history that Stanton Rose would be pressured a bit. However, the young Colts guard who hails from Kwakwani and was the Finals MVP during the National Club Championships, is continuing to grow from strength to strength. Head Coach Junior Hercules stated that, “I’m in awe of his rapid development.”
Name: Harold Adams
Age: 29
Position: Power Forward
Bio: Part of Linden Victory Valley Royals’ firepower, Adams is capable of single-handedly turning around a game. In September last, he scored a record 111 points as Royals destroyed Falcons 206-46 during a Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) league game. This is Adams’ first CBC call up.
Name: Kevon Wiggins
Age: 17
Position: Shooting Guard
Bio: The overseas based Wiggins who hails from the Ancient County of Berbice, attends the Evander Childs University in the Bronx, New York. Wiggins is known for his heart and if he is given the opportunity to run in Suriname, he will take all challenges head on.
Name: Ray Victor
Age: 30
Position: Guard
Bio: This former College basketball player last won the Club Championship with Kings Basketball Club of the British Virgins Islands (BVI) in 2016. The 6’ 1″ player will bring much experience to the team.
Name: Travis Burnett
Age: 29
Position: Guard
Bio: Burnett has been the driving force in local club Kobras, carrying them to back to back third place playoffs in the National Club Championship in 2017 and 2018. Burnett is known for his scoring ability but Coach Junior Hercules has opted to utilise his solid defensive capabilities instead.
Name: Anthony Moe
Age: 28
Position: Power Forward
Bio: Moe is the Co-Captain of the team and rightfully so. He scored a game high 27-points and grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds during his team’s (Dyna’s Ravens) losing effort against Bounty Colts in the 2018 National Championship. Moe’s height and tactical awareness make him one of the better defenders in the Guyana team.
