Three robbers escaped with $12,000 and a gold ring early yesterday morning after beating a husband and sexually assaulting his spouse in the couple’s East Bank Essequibo home.
Police said the attack occurred around 2:30 hrs.
It is alleged that the intruders struck the sleeping husband to the head. They then demanded money, and the man handed over $12,000 and a ring.
“During the ordeal, the husband was struck to the head and his spouse was allegedly sexually assaulted,” police said.
“It was further alleged that the suspects placed the victims into their (victims’ ) vehicle and drove away but the vehicle reportedly broke down and the perpetrators escaped.”
The victims were medically examined, treated and sent away.
Based on investigation gathered, investigators arrested two men who reside in the same community. They are currently being interrogated.
The brutal attack comes just after police reported a seven percent decrease in serious crimes at the end of April 2018, relative to the same period last year.
