For the twenty fifth successive year, the Cricket Teams of Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation, the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS honoured outstanding fathers as part of their celebration of Father’s Day. The teams honoured dozens of fathers under their Annual Walter Nero Tribute to Fathers’ Programme. The programme is sponsored by the children of Walter Nero, in memory of the father of eight children who died three years ago.
The Club provided food hampers to eighty fathers, while Ravindranauth Kissoonlall was named the Walter Nero Father of the Year 2018 and received a trophy, framed Certificate of Excellence and collection of gifts. Earlier in the month, the ten cricket teams and the Over-35 Group provided breakfast to dozens of fathers as they waited to collect their monthly Old Age Pension. Three fathers also received special gifts from the RHTY&SC.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster congratulated the fathers on being outstanding parents. The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club selected the fathers primarily on then being outstanding role model parents and urged them to share their experience with the younger generation of fathers. Noting that the current generation of parents faces new challenges as compared to the past, Foster stated that fatherhood is a special gift from God. With the advent of social media, parenting has become even more difficult for the younger generation. The long serving Secretary/CEO called on the parents to assist the RHTY&SC to spread its Say No/Say Yes Message. The Message is to get youths to Say No to Drugs, Crime, Suicide, Alcohol, Tobacco, Pre-Marital and to Say Yes to Education, Religion, Sports, Culture and Life. The RHTY&SC, he stated was delighted to honour Ravindranauth Kissoonlall as the Father of the Year. Kissoonlall, is a father of two sons and also serves as the Cricket Manager/Asst Organising Secretary of the Club. Kissoonlall, Foster stated is not only a good parent to his two sons but also serves as a positive role model to every member of the RHTY&SC and is the head of its cricket section.
Asst Secretary of the Club, eighteen years old Simon Naidu stated that the ten cricket teams worked hard to make the project a success and expressed gratitude to the Nero’s Family for their co-sponsorship. Gratitude was also extended to Bakewell, Bounty Farm Ltd, Ryan Tillack, Sham, Johnny, Deonarine Shane, Navin Raghoo, Food-for-the-Poor and R. Lawson.
Kissoonlall expressed thanks to his fellow Club mates for honouring him and pledged to uphold the high standard he has set in the past.
