On Wednesday, Rose Hall Town in Corentyne Berbice will be in mourning as one of its brightest sporting stars, 15-year-old Beyoncé Ross, will laid to rest after succumbing to a brain tumour at 02: 22hrs on June 10 at the Georgetown Pubic Hospital after being declared ‘brain dead’ for five days.
Beyoncé, who won three Gold medals in the 2017 National School’s Cycling Championships, was diagnosed with a brain tumour and on life support before losing her final and most important race, plunging her family, the entire Cycling fraternity, the Town of Rose Hall and the Lower Corentyne Secondary School into grief.
Extremely talented in Cycling, Beyoncé was a fourth form student who was also very academically inclined and a role model for youths in Rose Hall Town and the Guyana Government will stand the cost of the Funeral.
On Wednesday, the body of Beyoncé will be at her Parents’ home from 11:00hrs before being taken to the Life Spring Ministry from 12:30hrs for a church service and then to the tarmac at the Area H ground for viewing before being taken to her final resting place in the Rose Hall Town Cemetery.
Beyoncé, who was removed from her pain and taken to a better place, leaves to mourn her Mother Yonette, father Keith Ross, brothers Jamaal, Junior, Rene, Kelvin, Aunts, Uncles and many friends who have been posting messages of condolences on her Facebook page.
According to her mom, Beyoncé was getting severe headaches and vomiting in February but was treated for a stomach infection before an MRI indicated a tumour in the middle of her brain.
They were referred to Neurosurgeon Dr. Amarnauth Dukhi and Beyoncé underwent surgery on April 13 at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
On Monday May 28, the results of the biopsy, done by Jamaica based professor Crandon, revealed that the brain tumour was not cancerous.
However, two days later Beyoncé was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital before being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital on June 6 where she slipped into a Coma and never woke up.
Not surprisingly, Doctors informed that the surgery could not have been done here and overseas treatment was required.
Meanwhile, the National Sports Commission (NSC) and Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) are among the sporting bodies to have sent condolences to Beyoncé’s family.
Coach of the Flying Ace Cycle Club in Berbice Randolph Roberts said after last year’s National School Cycling Championships he had discussions with Beyoncé’s parents for her to join his club.
Roberts informed that Beyoncé was in the process of joining the club when she fell ill. Coach Roberts revealed that a motorcade of Motor Cycles has been arrange to escort Beyoncé’s body from the Arkaum Funeral Parlour in New Amsterdam to the Village of Albion when Cyclists will take over; riding to her residence in Rose Hall Town.
Minister of Social Cohesion with responsibilities for Sports Dr Norton and Director of Sports Christopher Jones are among the Ministers expected to travel the Ancient County on Wednesday, while Jones informed that Minister Norton will speak at the Area H ground.
