More than 300 residents from various settlements within the Pomeroon, recently benefitted from a medical outreach, which was collaborated between the Trevor Daniel’s Enterprise and the Ministry of Health.
The two-day outreach was facilitated in Lilydale, a community located more than 20 miles north of Charity. There the medical team conveniently occupied the Lilydale Primary School and Health Post. During the two days of the outreach, residents benefitted from integral health services such as blood pressure and diabetic testing, cervical cancer testing, eye testing, dental checkups, sexual and reproductive health services and nutrition and medical examination.
Since the Pomeroon is primarily a riverine region, bringing quality healthcare to residents is often a challenge. Most of the residents who spoke with this publication, said that most of the local health post are incapable of providing quality healthcare. As such, most of them are forced to endure the heavy cost of travelling to charity for better services.
Representing Trevor Daniel’s Enterprise over the past two days, was Mr. Jerome Andrews. Mr. Andrews explained that the government is now exploring avenues that will aid in taking improved health care, to communities within the Pomeroon.
Andrews said that at the same time, Trevor Daniel’s Enterprise-being a local investor in the area- made use of the opportunity to collaborate with the Ministry in giving back to the community.
Andrews added, “We got down in most of the communities and we realized that there was a need for improvement in healthcare. You might get sick; you want to get to Charity but you don’t have the money. So, this is where the idea was born to focus on medical outreach.
“We approached the Ministry of Health and we decided that we will collaborate.”
Trevor Daniel is a local investor who grew up in the Pomeroon, and spent most of his life in the farming business. The Trevor Daniel’s project in the Pomeroon involves the acquisition of approximately 3000 acres of farmlands for the development of a coconut estate. The company also donated medical supplies to two health posts in the Pomeroon last Friday. [Romario Blair]
