The Art Williams and Harry Wendt Aeronautical Engineering School (AW&HWAES) at the Eugene F. Correia International Ogle, East Coast Demerara is celebrating its Silver Jubilee this Year with notable achievements.
The highlight of its 25th Anniversary is the Approval and Recognition of the School by the Guyana National Accreditation Council of the Ministry of Education. This School, having been registered with the NAC-G, since July 2016, has been certified as a Candidate for Institutional Accreditation.
The Ab-Initio Training Programme offered by the School is a Level 6 – Associate Degree. This along with its approved training for an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer’s Licence, is now able to bridge the gap between Air Transport Certification for Licences and that of Higher Education with an Associate Degree.
For Graduates, this means Credits can be transferred for a Bachelor’s Degree.
The Board of Directors of the Engineering School applauded its Management Team, Staff and Instructors who “continue to advance this School as a Premier Learning Institution in Aviation in Guyana”.
The School is the First Tertiary Educational Institution in CARICOM with an ISO 9001 Certified Quality Management System and has maintained this approval to date.
This pioneering institution which opened its doors to training in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering in 1993, is approved as an Aviation Training Organisation (ATO), by the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the Caribbean Aviation Safety Oversight System of CARICOM (CASSOS), Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA), the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Suriname (CASAS) and the Trinidad & Tobago Civil Aviation Authority (TTCAA). This School is also a full Member of Flight Safety Foundation, based in Virginia, USA.
This School is approved under the Rules and Regulations of the Guyana Aviation Requirements and is working together with the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority to develop and transition to the Training Guidelines set out in the International Civil Aviation Organisation, (ICAO) Doc. 7192, Part D1.
The School was certified on July 24, 2006 by the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards for its ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
The AW&HWAES has assisted in staffing the operations at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport and the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, with qualified Aircraft Engineers.
The Guyana Defence Force, Air Corps has, since 1999, sponsored students in various levels of the Ab-Initio Programme. The School continues to provide Modular Training to GDF students in various categories of licensing.
The Department of Public Service, Guyana, has continuously sponsored students who some have since graduated and are now employed with the GDF Air Corps.
Regionally, the School has trained students sponsored by LIAT (1974) Ltd. Airlines, from Barbados, St. Vincent and Antigua and under an Apprenticeship Programme with Caribbean Airlines Ltd. in Trinidad and Tobago.
The Antigua Board of Education had also sponsored students over the last six years.
