The Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) will have an action packed weekend as they conclude their 2017 season and kick-off their 2018 season subsequently.
The ever exciting Bounty Farm 15’s tournament will close off the season with Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and Caribs 15s going head to head this afternoon from 16:30hrs. A likely win today for second place GDF against table stragglers Caribs will allow the army men to retain their 15s title. Unofficially, they are second with 31 points, while Panthers are in the lead with 33 points.
On Sunday, the Hornets and the Panthers will scrum to commence the 2018 Bounty 15s League.
The action will continue the following weekend with Panthers and Caribs clashing on Saturday, June 16 and GDF and Hornets going head to head on Sunday, June 17.
After a break, play will resume on the weekend of July 7 and 8, with Hornets and Falcons facing off first on the Saturday and then rivalry between GDF and the Panthers will be fueled with their clash on the Sunday.
Moreover, the GRFU has announced their training schedule as it leads up to their international engagements. The national 7s and 15s teams training will kick-off on July 14. While the 7s team departs on July 28, the 15s team will continue their preparations until their departure on August 22.
Training sessions will run into September, so as to keep players fit for their Rugby Americas North (RAN) Sevens Championships slated for September 22 and 23 in Barbados.
The GRFU has three international engagements, inclusive of the Casco games from July 29 to August 4 in Barranquilla, Colombia; then Americas Rugby challenge from August 25 to September 2.
