After weeks of intense training, the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) has reduced their provisional 17-man squad to the final 12 who will fly out Barbados to play in a three-game friendly against the ‘Land of the Flying Fish’ senior men’s team, as preparations for the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) championships heighten.
The team will jet off tomorrow and will play on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with each match beginning at 20:00hrs at the Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Complex in Wildey, St. Michael.
Stanton Rose has been named the team captain of the squad that has a good mix of youth and experience. The announcement which was made by Guyana’s Head Coach, Junior Hercules, will see the 18-year-old Rose becoming the youngest Senior National team captain in the GABF history.
During a press brief to unveil the team at Palm Court yesterday evening, Rose humbly expressed gratitude to be able to lead such a talented bunch.
Based on his performances in the National Club Basketball Championships (Road to Mecca V) and in the recently concluded two-match series, his club Bounty Colts played against Suriname National Team, Rose has demonstrated his consistency and ability to step up to the plate and perform when it matters most.
The full list reads, Stanton Rose (Team Captain), Anthony Moe (Co-Captain), Shaine Webster (Centre), Timothy Thompson (Centre), Harold Adams (Small Forward), Orlan Glasgow (Small Forward), Kevon Wiggins (Shooting Guard), Dominic Vincente (Shooting Guard), Nikkoloi Smith (Shooting Guard), Travis Burnett (Small Forward), Chris Williams (Shooting Guard), Domair Gladstone (Point Guard) and Travis Belgrave (Point Guard).
