Recent inclement weather has delayed the start of the inaugural ExxonMobil U-14 Boys and Girls Football tournament which was scheduled to begin yesterday at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground.
Once favourable weather is experienced, the tournament will now begin next Saturday, according to the organisers who had released the opening round fixtures on Thursday last.
The organizers, Petra Organisation, contended that the fixtures will remain the same with Tutorial contesting the first match of the inaugural event against Buxton Youth Development.
Marian Academy will play Uitvlugt, Dolphin Secondary against Ann’s Grove, Bishops playing Annandale, Carmel against Vergenoegen and New Campbellville against Brickdam.
In the second half of the opening day, Tucville will play Queenstown Secondary, Chase will play St John’s College, North Ruimveldt will match skills with School of the Nations, East Ruimveldt will come against St George’s and Kingstown will contest South Ruimveldt in the final opening round match.
During a recent briefing, Petra Co-director Troy Mendonca noted that with the smaller number of female teams, their competition would not start until the third week of action.
In this space, he said the Guyana Football Federation offered to do coaching courses for the females and their coaches in an attempt to fine tune their skills.
