The Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) has renewed its sponsorship commitment to the Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) for its biggest championship of the local tournament calendar, the GBTI Open.
On Thursday last, at the Bank’s headquarters in Kingston, the sponsorship cheque was handed over to Cristy Campbell representing the GLTA in the presence of President Samuel Barakat, VP Robin Singh, Secretary Molly Hassan and committee member Illeana Boodoo. Nadia DeAbreu – Marketing and Communications Officer of GBTI’s High Street branch, Pamela Binda- Public Relations and Marketing Manager of GBTI and other staff of the bank were also on hand for the presentation.
After the handing over, GLTA head, Barakat, extended gratitude to the Bank for its continued support, not only for this tournament but throughout the year. The GBTI facilities have been afforded to the GLTA to be used for high performance training for their top junior and senior players.
The GBTI Open initiated in the 1980s and due to measures beyond control, was halted. The tournament restarted in 2010 and has gotten bigger every year. This year’s tournament is scheduled to commence on June 22nd and will see the top juniors, seniors and veterans fiercely vying for the coveted titles.
Anthony Downes (male) and Afruica Gentle (female) are the reigning senior champions of the GLTA’s flagship tournament.
