The life of a 30-year-old Albion Sugar Estate employee, Lalta Jagmohan, was snuffed out after he was struck down along the Albion Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice around 19:10 hours Tuesday.
Investigations revealed that motor car PRR 9091 was heading east along the northern side of the thoroughfare while cyclist Jagmohan called ‘Putaloo’ of Sand Reef, Albion was heading in the said direction but on the southern side of the road. It is alleged that the cyclist rode from south to north into the path of the vehicle causing a collision. The collision resulted in the man’s demise.
His aunt, Vidyawattie Jagmohan, related that the man had visited her home earlier and had a meal as he usually would after which he left on his bicycle.

She stated that after she received the shocking news she contacted another relative in Albion and they both headed to the scene. However, upon arrival at the scene, the woman said that the body was already removed. They then proceeded to the Albion Police Station and were told that Jagmohan’s body was at the Port Mourant Hospital. The aunt also mentioned that the driver of the car who struck her nephew was already in police custody when she arrived at the Police Station.
“Dem police tell we he [Jagmohan] deh Port Mourant hospital and then we go. When we go we see he head and he foot and suh break up and then abey call the funeral parlour to take his body away,” the grieving woman said.
The relatives of the driver of the motor car were at the home of the dead man’s relatives when this publication arrived. They were heard offering their sympathy to the grieving family and also offered to help in any way they can.
Meanwhile, the driver, an 18-year-old of Fyrish Village, Corentyne, Berbice was subjected to a breathalyzer test which he passed. He remains in police custody to assist with the investigation. A post-mortem
examination conducted on Jagmohan’s remains revealed that his death was due to a fractured skull and brain haemorrhage.
