As part of its efforts to give back to the community, the Lions Club of Stabroek yesterday donated gift bags filled with hygienic supplies among other things to the students of David Rose Special Needs School.
David Rose is a school for children with disabilities and was founded in 1968. It is located in Thomas Lands, Georgetown. In light of the school celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Lions Club decided to celebrate with them by making this generous donation of bags containing soap, socks and deodorants among other items.
The supplies were sent from the Brooklyn Leaders Lions Club in New York to the Guyanese arm of the organization. According to one of the Charter Members, Gillian Jansen, the venture is a twin project between the Lions Club and Brooklyn Leaders.
President of the club, June Leitch, presented the gifts to over 100 pupils who had bright smiles on their faces.
The Lions Club of Stabroek is a charitable organization, formed in 2002, which continuously gives back to society. This initiative was part of their service to the community and the less fortunate. The club also has other donations to make for Mother’s Day at senior citizens’ homes among other locations.
