The Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the attempted murder of a man who was stabbed several times to his abdomen after an argument with a teen will commence on June 14.
Nineteen-year-old Calvin George of 859 Grove, East Bank Demerara was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that on April 11 at Kaneville, East Bank Demerara, with intent to commit murder, he unlawfully wounded Orwin Peters.
On Friday, when the matter was called in Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan courtroom, Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield stated that the file is completed and that he intends to call a total of nine witnesses.
According to reports, on the day in question, the victim and the accused were known to each other had an argument after George allegedly used his toilet, which is situated in the victim’s yard.
As a result of the argument, George became annoyed and armed himself with a knife and dealt the victim several stabs to his abdomen.
The victim was picked up by public-spirited persons and was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre before being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he underwent surgery.
George was granted bail in the sum of $200,000. Conditions of the bail are that the defendant must lodge his passport with the court.
He was instructed to not contact any of the witnesses in the matter or cause anyone to contact them.
George was also instructed to report to the Grove Police Station every Friday until the completion of the trail.
